Can anyone tell me if I can use the Catalyst 1900s for a home lab. I am taking the CCNA and have access to 2 of them for free. Problem is , I believe the ios is version 9. If they are useable, is there an upgrade image out there anywhere?

They are not a good option as the command line is different than current IOS offerings. If possible dig up a 2950 switch.

Thanks. I appreciate your input. They were laying around my office and I was unsure if they had any use at all.

Hello David,
1900 actually have a firmware that comes in two versions:
standard edition: a text menu based interface
enterprise edition: can have an IOS like CLI and can use AAA like TACACS+ for authentication but they are different then modern switch : no voice vlan concept for example, also show commands are limited and with different output.
A c2950 would be better, if with enterprise edition you can use them as second switch.
Only possible upgrade is to 9.0.7 or like they are old systems.
Hope to help
Giuseppe
