fax at cisco callmanager

hi,

we attach an fax server to an Cisco Callmanager. We configure the fax server as an h323-gateway in callmanager administration. the line numbers of the fax machines are configured in the fax server and also as ATA-lines manually in Callmanager. The ATA-Lines are all in a partition ATA, the fax server lines all in a partition FAX. If we set the partitions in a CSS and take a call to a number, the call is routed correct to the fax server or FAX partition( if the FAX partition stand at first before the ATA partition). But the call is end with busy tone. If we delete the FAX partition in the CSS, the call is correct go to the fax machine directly and is received.

I can ping the fax server from callmanager. The lines are correct configured in fax server.

Here I add some line of Callmanager-Traces, if call fails:

any suggestions to solve this?

It is very confusing how you have described your setup. Can you please explain what the ATA-186 devices are used for? (Are the ATA-186 devices used for other fax machines)??

Did you configure the line numbers for the fax server as route patterns? Try making those route patterns point to a route list -> route group that includes your H.323 gateway.

Can you outline your entire configuration in the following format:

CSS FAX {

FAX PARTITION {

ROUTE PATTERN 1001

ROUTE PATTERN 1002

}

ATA PARTITION {

ATA MAC 00112233AABB LINE DN 2001

ATA MAC 0011223344AA LINE DN 2002

}

}

hi,

sorry for confusing.

the fax machines are connected to ATA, because outgoing fax should be go direct via Callmanager into the PSTN. If somebody will send a fax from PSTN to one of this machine, the fax should not go to the machine via the ATA. It should go to the Faxserver instead, which will distribute the fax to the recipient. But if somebody want send a fax inside the campus, the fax should go normal via ATA in and out.

So we create a partition FAX with route patterns, e.g. 123. This pattern is configured at the faxserver. The same pattern is configured as line at an ATA in the partition ATA.

The route patterns in the FAX partitions point to a route list >> route group which include the Faxserver as a H.323- Gateway.

But now, the customer want some fax machines should receive fax from PSTN via ATA, and not via Faxserver. So w e create the CallingSearchSpace FAX with this configuration:

CSS FAX {

FAX PARTITION {

ROUTE PATTERN 1001

ROUTE PATTERN 1002

}

ATA PARTITION {

ATA MAC 00112233AABB LINE DN 1001

ATA MAC 0011223344AA LINE DN 1002

ATA MAC 121212121212 LINE DN 3456

}

}

The problem is, if the a fax from PSTN come in for 1001, the fax should go to the faxserver, but we get a busy tone. If we remove the fax partition from the CSS the fax correct going to the faxmachine via ATA.

My questions is, why a busy tone? Could it be a connection fail to the faxserver? In which case, the callmanager create a busy tone?

Hope that I explain better :)

Yes you are correct - sounds like a fax server issue. If you remove the ATA partition from the CSS - do you still get the busy tone? = If you answer "yes" - then you are correct, an issue with the fax server.

You mention that the fax server is an H.323 gateway. What fax server are you using? Is it really providing H.323 IP connectivity, or is it connected to a seperate H.323 gateway?

thank for your replay, but now I think I found the error. Its the firewall between callmanager and faxserver. after deactivating this for test, I got a ring from the faxserver.

faxserver is a ferrari faxserver that provides h.323

Thanks for your help.

sorry double post
