We have an ASA5550 and are running 7.1(2). We want to upgrade to 8.0.3. Do we need to upgrade to 7.2(4) first before we can upgrade to 8.0.3?
Thanks.

Diane,
No you can go directly to 8.0.3, just verify that you meet the correct specs and you should be good to go. Also, make sure you update ASDM as well. As always, backup your configuration before proceeding.

Thanks for your prompt response. I downloaded the new image. What command do I tell ASA to load the new image?
Thanks.

Diane
Type the following command:
boot system disk0:/configfilename
Please note that there are no spaces between disk0: and "/" and "configfilename". The "configfilename" is the file that you just downloaded.
After typing the above command, don't forget to reboot the device.
Good luck.

Here's the official doc. Looks decent and pretty straight forward.

Make sure to download the correct ASDM that comes with the IOS version you plan to use. For 8.0.3 looks like asdm-613.bin is the ticket.
Cheers!
