Updating sensors with the E2 engine update

To update with latest signatures, I understand that I will require the sensors be updated with the E2 engine update.

My IPS MC Server Version is as below.

Latest signature level of IDS 4.x 4.1(5)S243

Latest signature level of IPS 5.x S340 V1.2

Latest signature level of IOS IPS S243

I am downloading these files

1) IPS-4260-K9-5.1-8-E2.pkg

IPS Service Pack for IPS-4260 sensor

Platform 5.1(8)E2

2) IPS-K9-5.1-8-E2.pkg

IPS Service Pack Upgrade File(All

Platforms Except 4260)5.1(8)E2

3) IPS-engine-E2-req-5.1-7.pkg

IPS E2 Engine Update

Please help me with the process of updating my sensor with E2 Engine update

For each sensor post a complete listing of the version as well as the sensor model.

And I would assume you want to get to 5.1(8)E2 with latest signatures?

Or do you want to go up to 6.0(5)E2 or 6.1(1)E2?

Keep in mind that you will also need to ensure you have a support contract and corresponding license in order to get to the latest signature levels.

On any sensor running version 5.1 or higher you can check the output of "show ver" to see if your license is up to date.

For the 4.x sensor you can request a license for the sensor through https://tools.cisco.com/SWIFT/Licensing/PrivateRegistrationServlet?DemoKeys=Y

If the sensor is under a maintenance contract you should get the license.

You can then hold on to the license until you get 5.1 or higher installed on the sensor.

Thanks for the Reply. I rated for your help.

I could update my sensors from version 5.1(7)E1S338V1.2 to version5.1(8)E2S353V1.4 successfully.

Please let me know if I can update my sensors to 6.0(5)E2 or 6.1(1)E2.

Not sure why you rated my post so low.

It was not meant to be a final answer, but rather a list of questions for you to answer in order for me to provide you a detailed answer.

I need to know your sensor models and versions in order to let you know specifically what packages you need to download and install.

If you are using an IPS-4260 it is a different set of packages than if using other sensor models, but only if staying at version 5.1. If going to 6.0 or 6.1 it uses the standard packages instead of special ones.

If you were running 5.1(6)E2 versus 5.1(7) then it is a different set of files as well.

From 5.1(6) you had to upgrade all the way to 5.1(8)E2. If running 5.1(7)E1 then you could just upgrade to 5.1(7)E2 OR to 5.1(8)E2.

If you try going to 6.0 or 6.1 it is again a different set of packages.

Based on your latest response I assume you were able to figure it out.

As for upgrading to 6.0(5)E2 and/or 6.1(1)E2 it once again depends on your specific sensor models.

If using IPS-4210, then NO you have to stay at version 5.1(8)E2. The IDS-4210 is not supported in 6.0.

If using IPS-4215, IDS-4235, IPS-4240, IDS-4250, IPS-4255, IPS-4260, IDSM-2, NM-CIDS, SSM-10, or SSM-20; then yes you can upgrade to 6.0(5)E2 (assuming you have an up to date contract).

If using IPS-4240, IPS-4255, IPS-4260, IDSM-2, SSM-10, or SSM-20; then yes you can upgrade to 6.1(1)E2 (assuming you have an up to date contract). The IDS-4215, IDS-4235, IDS-4250, and NM-CIDS are not supported in 6.1.

What model sensors do you have?

Do you just want to apply E2, or push them all up to 6.0?

I updated my sensors from version 5.1(7)E1S338V1.2 to version5.1(8)E2S353V1.4.

Please let me know if I can update my sensors to 6.0(5)E2 or 6.1(1)E2. if so how should I do it?
