L3Aging process?

Unanswered Question
Sep 5th, 2008

I have a 6509 running hybrid. My CATOS version is 6.1(1b) and IOS version 12.1(4)E1. My CPU usage on the switch is 99%..."show proc cpu" shows that the L3Aging process is taking up 83% of that.

Can someone please explain what this process is, and if there is a way to take some strain off of my switch?

Thank you,

I have this problem too.

Hello Scott,

what supervisor and MSFC are you using ?

for sup1/MSFc

for sup2/MSFC2

on sup1/MSFC1 MLS is flow based traffic driven on sup2/MSFC2 MLS is CEF based

But the following doc can be a better fit for your needs

Hope to help

if you are using EIGRP:

CSCdt54036 Bug Details

Packet loss with default network learned via EIGRP in MSFC2

Cat6509 with MSFC2 running 12.1.5b(E7) and using EIGRP as the routing protocol

has been observed to cause packet loss when using the default network for the

return path of the packets. Using a default route instead of default network

will not have

@any packet loss.

This issue is resolved.

The bug CSCdt65160 is a clone of this one.

In order to fix this bug the CatOS image on the supervisor needs to be

upgraded to 6.1(3) or above.
