Accessing Routers from the Access Server

Hi All,

Can anyone please come to my aid as to why three of my ten routers refuses my admission from the AS?.

Even after clearing the lines. Here is the example output from one of the Routers.

Access-Server#clea lin 6

[confirm]

[OK]

Access-Server#r6

Trying r6 (201.201.1.1, 2006)... Open

Hence the router remains in the "open state" indefinitely.

Your urgent help shall be appreciated.

Regards

Hi!

Cables used for connections (AS to routers) are the right ones?

Can you issue a "sh line" and give the output here?

You have the same behavior on all devices or only on some?

What AS you use? What cards?

Thanks!

Cheers,

Calin

Hi calin,

Many thanks for your prompt response.

From what I'm seeing here is that your lines are in use (the * in front is there when you have an open connection on the line).

Do a "clear line tty 6" and check if the * in front disappear and please tell me.

Cheers,

Calin

Hi Calin,

Thanks again. Upon carrying out your instruction as shown bellow, i realized the resulted in the former behaviour.

Access-Server#clea lin tty 6

[confirm]

[OK]

Access-Server#r6

Trying r6 (201.201.1.1, 2006)... Open

Hence remain there infinitely, but i tried it the same router on a different port on the Access-server and it works, should i then suspect that the problem is with port6 of the AS?.

Your further help shall be appreciated, hence what is the difference between Sh lin 6 and sh line tty 6?

regards

Try to compare the output of "sh line 6" with one of the working ones, see if there is something wrong there.

You can try to switch the cable from line 6 with the one that you can see that it is working. Can you reach the same router (former connected to cable 6) via new connection? If yes than it's a problem with line 6 or cable connected to it. If not...check your router...maybe the console port has a problem.

Btw, there is no difference between sh line 6 and sh line tty 6 , but I like to specify what kind of line is there :)

Good luck!

Cheers,

Calin

Hello,

first of all on the access server you need to verify that the line associated with R6 is not already in use or appended in that case you need to free it with clear line .

Then, all the checks already suggested

Hope to help

Giuseppe
