gusy whats the difference between VRF and VRF lite....i am very new ti this VRF concept i tried to see a doco on cisco site but couldnt find it can someone please recommand a good doco for understanding and configuring VRF on routers??? thanks in advance

Hi,
VRF lite is simply when one uses VRFs on a router without implementing full support for l3vpn as described by RFC4364, hence VRF lite.

VRF lite is used at that time where your device not supports the MPLS features like LDP or TDP. From the attached figure you come to know that L3 switch is working as VRF lite becasue it doesnot supports the LDP and that switch we have extended the network till the router where the actual vrf is created becasues it supoprts the MPLS features.
