I am trying to configure an MRTG for cpu utilization of 6509 and 4506 switches. But the OID i am trying ( 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.58 )which i found on the net is returning errors and the graph is showing null value continiously. Can somebody help me in this. The SNMP-Community is correctly defined and MRTG is replying " did not eval into defined data "

What version of software are these switches running?

for 6509 the version is 12.2(14r)s9 and for 4506 the version is 12.1(20)ew4.

Then you want cpmCPUTotal5min (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.5). There may be multiple instances of this object, so walk it to see which CPUs you have available. In fact, if you walk the cpmCPUTotalTable (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1), you will see other details for each CPU.

After I walked through the SNMP i got OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8.2(cpmCPUTotal5minRev.2

)from the switch. This is working fine .However what do we mean by rev2 here ? Does that mean newer OID upgradaed in IOS ?

The Rev object is the newer, non-deprecated object. If your IOS supports this object, you should it use it instead of the deprecated cpmCPUTotal5Min object. The .2 refers to the instance of this object within the cpmCPUTotalTable.
