any one know why my 2900xl wont take the encapsulation dot1Q command it is using version 12.3

Correct Answer by Giuseppe Larosa about 8 years 8 months ago

Hello Shane,

some low end switches support only ISL and others support only 802.1Q. Try to use ISL on both ends of the links.

For this reason some switches don't even accept the command switchport trunk encapsulation with any parameter because there is no choice

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi,

are you using these commands?

switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

2900xl does not have 12.3 version.

It will only support dot1q. Therefore there is no need to specify your encapsulation.
