initial configuration dialog? [yes/no] - how do I get rid of this?

Hi,

I'm setting up a new router and it boots up and says "Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? [yes/no]: "

I say no and put the config on and all works well and I type "wr mem".

I turn the router off and back on and I get the "Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? [yes/no]: " message again and the config is lost.

I have tried "copy running-config startup-config" and the same thing happens after a reboot.

What simple thing am I missing here?

Router is bypassing the startup config.

Check config-register value under show version.

You will have to set config register to value 0x2102 .

(config)#config-register 0x2102

Please rate if it helps.

It says - Configuration register is 0x2142

change it to 0x2102.You should be good then.

Just to b explicit about the little bit that is implicit in the response from Saju:

- the 4 in 0x2142 indicates that the device should ignore the content of NVRAM during boot (which results in ignore the startup-config at boot time.

- the 0 in 0x2102 indicates that the device should read the content of NVRAM (which is startup-config) at boot time.

The response from Saju is exactly correct and I have rated it as such.
