High Packet Output, No Packet input weird connection problem on 2950

Hi

One of our PC support engineers has connected a PC to a 2950 switchport (via infrastructure copper cabling). A 'sh int f0/9' shows the link and line protocol as being 'UP'. The corresponding switch green light is on.

However!

The PC is showing as not connected.

The stats on the interface show something that seems very odd to me. The switch has a high packet output rate, but a zero input rate.

I thought that for the switch to show the link and line protocol as being 'UP' that it would have had to recieve as well as send packets.

Can anyone explain this? A cabling fault seems possible, but I've never seen this situation before!

Any advice much appreciated.

Regards,

Paul

Check to see if a span session is setup to that port . Think it is "show monitor" to see if a span is setup to that port . If so clear the span session .
