Interconnecting a C2960G with other Cisco switches is not workable unless I set the speed/duplex at both end to Auto/Auto. If I hard-code to 100M/FULL, I get no link light at all, but it works fine if I connect to HP or Netgear switches.
This only happens with the C2960G.

That is because you are using a straight thru cable with the 2960 , switch to switch needs a crossover unless you are using the auto mdix function which will only work as auto/auto and why you do not get a link trying to hardcode . If you feel the need to hardcode use a crossover cable. The hp and netgear switches probably use auto mdix on their end and why it works ok with those switches.
