Hi NetPro fellows -
I will be upgrading the IOS of two cisco 6509 switches from c6msfc2-jk2sv-mz.121-13.E14.bin to s222-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF13.bin . However the existing bootflash only has 32mb capacity and when i do a "show bootflash" i got two entries which i think is the IOS and bootloader image files.
c6sup22-jk2sv-mz.121-27b.E1.bin
c6msfc2-boot-mz.121-27b.E1.bin
Questions:
1. Is an external flash be available for the 6509 switch to store the new IOS(s222-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF13.bin ) which is 64mb in size?
2. Do i need to also configure the bootloader image after the new IOS has been placed?
thanks for your reply.
have a nice day.

Yes there are external compact flash cards - see attached link -
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/hardware/Config_Notes/78_15537.html
Once you have this IOS on the card you should then be able to boot from the card
boot system flash disk0:/

Regarding my second question, do i need to install a bootloader image with this IOS s222-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF13.bin ?

No you don't. I'm assuming your running in native mode ie. IOS on both MSFC and Supervisor.
