Hi all, is it possible to send broadcasts over other datalink types than ethernet ?

do you mean over other LAN protocols or WAN protocols ?

yes it is possible to send :
-layer 2 broadcast if you are bridging the wan
-layer 3 broadcast if you add the key word broadcast at the end of the ip mapping for example in framerelay or x25.
x25 map ip 192.168.21.1 (remote wan) 123456 (remote x25 address) broadxast

can routers forward layer 3 broadcasts ?
is it turned off by default ?

this not a feature that we turn on or off, but it is related to protocol itself. as i sai this possible for example with fr or x25.
in other hand, you can use "ip helper-address" to forward some particular broadcasts such as dhcp request... to a particular server in remote site>
