Hi! I have a problem with my new 6509. I plugged two WS-SUP32-GE-3B in 5 & 6 slots, power on 6509. After bootup I began diagnostic procedure (show module) and find out that one sup32 in slot 6 in state MajFail.

6 Policy Feature Card 3 WS-F6K-PFC3B 2.3 MajFail

6 Cat6k MSFC 2A daughterboard WS-F6K-MSFC2A 4.0 MajFail

I replased it by sup32 in slot 5, and error still exist. I checked redundansy state - look like communication problem with slot 6:

Hello Alexander,

here MajFail simply means major failure

6 Policy Feature Card 3 WS-F6K-PFC3B 2.3 MajFail

6 Cat6k MSFC 2A daughterboard WS-F6K-MSFC2A 4.0 MajFai

I think in a c6509 only some slots can be used for supervisors I would try to use slot1 instead of slot6.

Sorry, for a C6509 chassis slot5 andd slot6 are fine for supervisors.

see

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Here is a guide for running diagnostics on your supervisor. Also you have an IOS mismatch which is preventing SSO from running. I doubt that is the reason for the MajFail error.

HTH,

Mark

I correct IOS mismatch, now redundancy in state ACTIVE - STANDBY (HOT), but Major error in "sh module" still exist. What is wrong now?

Have you ran the diagnostics on the supervisor? It is likely that there is a hardware problem and it will have to RMA'd depending on the results.
