VTP,STP,Conversion from hybrid to native

Unanswered Question

Hi ALL:

I will be convrting 6513 from Hybrid to Native Mode.

I have used the EDC tool for conversion, but i have some confusion.

1.Should i be adding the switch in transparent mode or server

2.In the config the VTP mode is server and MST but i dont see any MST configured.

3.Spanning tree is Spanning tree mode: RAPID-PVST+ and not MST

4.In the config i have used command set spantree disable 1 (VLAN) for all my vlan.

5.Then why i see this is Root switch for vlans: 1-2,5-6,10,20,25,30,35,40,100,120,150,180,240-241,300,320.

6.What is the best way to configure VTP and STP based on this output

****************** show vtp domain ******************

Hello Vishwa,

1) changing the vtp domain to a different one and mode to transparent and then back right domain and mode to server to be sure to have revision number zero: but booting to Native IOS for the first time should give you this

2) config as vtp server, mst extension is VTPv3 stuff not supported in Native IOS ignore it

3) yes RSTP use it in line with the rest of the network (as it has been up to now)

4) I strongly disagree : let RSTP enabled for all vlans no reason to do this

5) maybe because you are using RSTP but again I recommend to have RSTP enabled for all vlans

6)

as told above

vtp server

RSTP enabled on all vlans : don't convert the spantree disable command

Finale note:

the conversion tool is not trusted by everyone some other collegue has suggested to convert manually

I did so in my own few conversions

hope to help

Giuseppe
