Problem Dialing from corporate directory

Hey All,

We upgraded the IP phones to sccp41.8-4-1sr1s from SCCP41.8-2-1S, and now dialing from the corporate directory does not work.

We just get "the call can not be completed as dialed"

But it works ok from the old firmware phone.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue before?

Hi Alan,

I can't find the exact bug in the 8.4(1)sr1 firmware but it almost surely is. Can you try 8.3(5) on one phone just to test.

Hope this helps!

Rob

Yeah that was my 1st thought as well. I've logged a tac case, So i will see what happens. I'm hoping its not bug, as i don't want roll out firmware for 800 phones agin :(

Bad news ! We've done the same (upgrade to 8.4.1 handset firmware) in preparation for an upgrade to CCM 6.1.2.

Other issues with headset echo and background images making the new 'shadow' font hard to read.

Tried handset firmware 8.3.4 and all seems OK.

Looks like it's rollout time again !!

Forgot to say that the issue is that it is because of the hyphens in the number string.

If you edit the number from 0207-8-xxxxx to 02078xxxxx (i.e a single string) it seems to work OK.

yeah, i logged a call with cisco, and they confirm it to be a bug. Its trying to dial non characters that can't be dialed.. In my case the space.

Apparently this firmware has a few issues. :(

Is there a case number for this bug?

Hey John,

See below, I'm downgrading an earlier version which works fine.

CSCsu43219 Bug Details

en-bloc feature causes non-dialable characters to be dialed

Symptom:

Call fails when phone dials a number with non-dial able characters like - ( ) [].

Conditions:

User directly dials a number from any directory (Missed Calls, Customer

Directory Service) which displays a number with non-dial able characters.

If using "Insert Hyphens in 12-Digit Numbers" CallManager service parameter

any call with 12 digits will create an entry with "-" in the appropriate

directory (Missed, Placed, Received). If user dials directly from any of these

directories the phone will use the en-bloc feature and dial the "-".

Workaround:

-If using custom directory script, edit so non dial able characters are not

displayed.

-Make sure "Insert Hyphens in 12-Digit Numbers" is set to false in 6.1.2

I find it amazing that Cisco STILL trips up at things like this. It's the 21st century and we still get problems like dialling ISO international number formats with a leading '+' or formatted with a '-'.
