I am trying to configure preposition on WAE-674s with 4.1 version. I can access the related file server sharing from a standalone with the domain-name/username and password.
On the preposition windows of the central management GUI, when I push the browse button the directory (not the files in it) is shown. However preposition fails:
The attached wireshark file shows the traffic between the file server and the waas during enabling process, as I can see, I am not MS expert, after TCP handshake the WAAS don't send any packets.

Bulent,
The connection for the PP job needs to be optimized (i.e. needs to pass through a peer device running the CIFS AO).

Bulent,
Is there another WAE in between the initiating WAE and the origin file server that the PP connection can be optimized with?

There is no other WAE between the initiating WAE (172.27.249.65) and the origin file server (172.27.242.222). However I can see the many connections in PT No Peer state on the WAE

The WAE and file server are on different vlans of the same 6500s. The file server vlan is configured with ip wccp 62 in, however its access-list do not match the related connection.
The related config on the 6500 site:

Hello Zach,
You are saying that the packets generated by preposition process of the waes should be optimized by the waas devices. So it means that I should not configure preposition on the core waes (waes near to file servers). Also I should remove the "redirect exclude in" lines on the interfaces facing to the branch wae devices. Do I understand correctly?
thanks,
Bulent

CIFS PP should be configured on the devices closest to the clients. The PP connection initiated from those devices must be optimized.
As far as removing 'redirect exclude in', I would need to take a closer look at your topology, traffic flow, and configuration. If you are performing WCCP interception on a software-based platform (ISR, 7200, etc.), then it doesn't hurt to leave it on. The WAE will try to optimize connections initiated from/destined to itself regardless of the interception method used.

Thanks Zach, Seils
After preposition traffic passed through core waas devices, preposiotion worked.
