redundant core switches - failover

Unanswered Question

2 questions:

1. In a redundant 6509 core switch config, say, core-a and core-b. assume that core-a is active.

what is command to force core-b as active?

2. can i install another WS-X6724-SFP blade in C6509E without shutting down the switch (outage)?

I have this problem too.

Simple one first :)

2) Yes you can insert this module without powering down the switch

1) Really depends on what you mean by core-a is active. Active for what HSRP, STP, service modules ??

Easy way to failover is if you have only single supervisor reset the supervisor module or if you are standing next to the switch power down core-a.

Really does depend on what you mean ?

The case for switches is different than ASAs and PIXes (Where you configure failover between 2 boxes, and configurition is traversed between the 2 dynamically). Both switches are always active, and configuration has to be done manually on both. There should be links from each core to every other device as its the responsibilty of STP to select only one path and block others.
