I am attempting to set up dot1x using the certificates on our CAC cards to authenticate. I have been able to set this up where when the smart card is inserted into the reader and after entering your PIN, the system will authenticate and let you connect. My issue is when you initially log into the PC, you have to insert your CAC card and enter your PIN. Since you technically don't have network access you cannot connect. I was wondering if there was a way to maybe when you log into Windows, allow the PIN you enter to allow access to the network while logging you into Windows? I hope you didn't make that sound too confusing. Let me know if you need any addition info.
