SPAN Port on 7201 Router?

How can I set up an RSPAN port (or something similar) on a 7201 router?

I'd like to send traffic that is routed through this router to a SPAN port on a 6509 so it can be monitored by a sniffer.

Thanks.

Hello Jason,

SPAN is a switch feature not supported on C7201.

However you can achieve the desired result but all the SPAN config will be on the C6509.

You need to define:

the port to which the C7201 connect as the monitor source

on a free unused where you connect the sniffer that will be your monitor session destination

Use the following link:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/span.html

if the C7201 is not connected to the C6509 find two free ports associate them to a new L2 Vlan and connect both the C7201 and the other end (do this during a mantainance window if link is already in production)

Hope to help

Giuseppe
