CUCM does not need exchange, Unity does need a mailstore. Either MS Exchange or Domino.

You simply can not do what you want I think.

Thx, so I need an Exchange server installed with virtually nothing except accounts with access...

Echange is where the messages are stored (for vm only and for Unified Messeging.) so yes you do need Exchange.

What version of Unity and Exchange are you planning on using?

I will help you out with the right installation documentation.

Can you point to in the right direction for documentation?

Then what is the purpose of the MAILSTORE cd provided with Unity? Shouldn't all voice mail live on my Unity server or going to the Exch server?

CUCM 6.1, IPCC 5.0, Unity 5.1, Exch 2003? Didn't realize Exch was a requirement and neither did contractor...

Just confused because my site is running older version and don't remember the contractors building Exch box, can everything go on Unity server or seperate server with Exch only

Re-reading, if MAILSTORE is Exch, how do I get past the assistant to load Unity is Exchange if not loaded?

Remoted into my system in Florida and Exch is on Unity Server for VM only. Want to install similar, simple setup. Basicaly have CUCM (Pub and Sub) installed, IPCC, Unity servers OS installed. IPCC is for 35 agents currently, but learned of plans for expanding in the future. Maybe seperate customers. And thanks for your inputs...

Right now - no Exchange, if I install the Message Store disk, will this install the Exchange and, after configurations, allow Unity to continue and install?

yes but there are issues

not sure if exchange full versoin is supported for Unity 5.01 on box. Need to check it out.

You might need to install Exchange off box and insall exchange tools only on the Unity box. I will send a link in a minute.

Randy, You have been most helpful but, as I said, I am far from done.

In the document I try to follow the steps, but I do not have a 'foret' so this is the first and only DC. ForestPrep failed and I also skipped the DomainPrep - same reason.

When loading the Exchange - all is fine until I try to extend the schema for Cisco Unity. errors 'Setup failed to initialize Acitve Directory' and logs shows spSchemaContainer->GetObject(CN=ms-Exch-Schema-Version-Pt) failed with error 0x80072030. Suggestions?

  • Cisco Employee,

Ed, this is because forest prep and domain prep need to be successfully ran before the Unity schema extensions can be run. Customers who run into this issue have been told to go back and re-run these two Exchange-specific components per the installation guide which will allow the schema to be extended for Unity. Randy has already been very helpful with providing documentation, but I'll forward where this is done anyway:

Hope this helps out,

Brad

Also, if you are continuing to follow this thread - does Cisco have an A to Z roadmap type document that shows the events or configurations that have to happen in a logical sequence rather that the documents throwing to all over the place to more documents? Meaning from installing what software first, second, etc. Then in the CUCM, IPCC, Unity configurations - all of the dependencies that should follow a decent chain of events? Been reading all weekend and still wonder what button gets pushed first.

  • Cisco Employee,

Ed,

No, there is not one document that lays out step by step simply because there are so many different ways to deploy Cisco products. The best way to get an overall high-level view would be to check over the usual Task List that's at the beginning of each doc.
