A simulator is a software package that pretends to be a real router or switch. A great one is made by Boson.

An emulator is actually running the Cisco IOS software on a PC or UNIX/Mac workstation.

The emulator is as real as it gets, but you will also want to give Boson a trial run.

Check out this emulator, GNS3 is a frontend for the IOS emulator dynamips.

It runs real IOS images so no limited subsets like you have in the BOSON

Do you have any good link to get it working on Windows Vista Professional?

I have it istalled 2 months ago but cannot get it to work. I heard it works well on Windows XP but my Laptop has Win Vista Professional and I am kind of stuck.
