From what I've gathered on the forums I may have incompatible GBICs between my 3750 and a new 2960. The 3750 has older 1000Base-SX modules and the GBIC installed in the 2960 is a GLC-SX-MM. Is my assumption correct that I would need GLC-SX-SM?

Hello Ivan,
you can connect a GBIC SX to a GLC-SX-MM using MM = multimode fiber
SX = short range => MM fiber so no problem should be expected
MM fiber has core of 50 / 65 micrometers so if you see these numbers it is fine
Hope to help

Thanks. We think this is the issue since we've discovered that our installers ran single mode fiber. I'm assuming that would prohibit us from using the MM module, correct?

Hello Ivan,
the answer is yes:
think of SM fiber as a narrower filter it will drop most of optical energy of MM transmitter and so communication will not be possible using a MM TX and MM rx over SM fiber
you need two GBIC SFP that run over SM fiber
Hope to help
