Hi. A customer has a rather thick wall at their site. Itsmaking mincemeat of the signal to their 7921 IP phone. Can I attatch different antennae's to the 800 series router? specifically something omni directional?

You probably want something other than omnidirectional, maybe a patch antenna so you can blast through the wall.

Yes, you can replace antennas. You should be able to unscrew the rubber duck antennas and connect a different one. Cisco uses an RP-TNC connectors for their antenna types.

Here's a listing of Cisco antennas. Make sure to get a 2.4GHz one.

Hey Huw,

Just to jump in for a minute :) Cisco does offer "low-loss" extension cables for sale (like the two listed below);

AIR-CAB020LL-R

20-ft. low-loss cable with RP-TNC connectors

AIR-CAB050LL-R

50-ft. low-loss cable with RP-TNC connectors

Hope this helps!

Rob

PS: They also come in 100 and 150 foot lengths.

The 50 foot cable jobby appears to be £80! I think I may suggest 2 paper cups and a long piece of string...

Hey Huw,

Hahaha ....yeah, nothing in life is cheap ;-) I like Semiphore flags as well!

Cheers,

Rob

PS: These are just the Cisco versions of these cables. You can probably order them up from a local supplier at a somewhat cheaper co$t.
