Hi all,

We have 6509 CatOS switch which has port 3/4 and 4/4 as Trunk Ports.

I did sh top util and found that trunk ports have over flow of 2977 and 18384

sh top util

Start Time: Oct 23 2008 01:00:50

End Time: Oct 23 2008 01:01:21

PortType: all

Metric: util

4/3 1000 6 505162023 436374 383 146 0 0

So what does over flow mean.

Is it some type of error on switch?

many thanks

Mahesh

Buffer Overflow means that the port receivesg more traffic than it can store in its buffer. This can be caused a bursty traffic, as well an overrun of buffers. The suggested action is to decrease the transmission of the source device.

If its just very slowly incrementing its probably not a problem and just due to bursty traffic , clear the counters and keep an eye on it for a few days.

Hi glen,

thanks for reply.

I cleared the counters still it is increasing

rapidly so i can ignore this as it is not serious issue?

Thanks

Mahesh
