LMS 3.1 DFM trap forwarding to CM

Unanswered Question

Hello,

Run into a bit of a problem while configuring this dynamic user tracking feature: the switches send MC-notification traps to DFM, the DFM is set to forward ALL traps to CM via

FORWARD: *.*.*.* .* * * localhost:1431:xxxx

CM seems like getting something but cannot decode (the CM does not validate either the community of the traps or the source of the traps, DFm and CM are on the same box).

The DEBUG of for the user tracking is set for MAC UHIC and this is what I get:

2008/10/24 15:45:00 Thread-11 macuhic DEBUG SocketListener: Packets received: 4722

class com.cisco.nm.cm.ut.uhic.mac.AsnDecoder.AsnObject: CB-Error-wrongstatus.v2: Skt IP Address: 127.0.0.1, Wrong Status: 1, Version: AsnMakeMe_snmp_v2c: SNMPv2c

2008/10/24 15:45:00 pool-1-thread-2 macuhic DEBUG Decoder: SnmpPdudeviceIP : 127.0.0.1 timeStamp : 0 Processed : false

Decoder Stage: deviceIP : 127.0.0.1 timeStamp : 0 Processed : false

Has anyone dealt with this issue before?

Thanks

Have you enabled the reception of forwarded traps in Campus? If so, it looks like there is an ASN.1 decoding error. SNMPv2c traps are supported, so this should really work provided DFM trap listening is enabled in User Tracking.

Note: Dynamic UT only process the MAC change traps, and not the MAC move traps.

Thanks for your reply, just tried switching to SNMP v1 and it works now (looks like SNMP v2 traps are broken either in the DFM forwarding or CM trap receiver):

I've only used SNMPv1 myself, but the documentation states SNMPv2 notifications are supported. Can you try configuring one switch to send v2 traps directly to the CM server, and see if that works?
