General Routing Questions

It has been a while since I have configured a Cisco Router, Firewall, etc. I'm revisiting some old issues which may have changed since then.

- In an environment with two or more AS's (Autonomous System), what routing protocol (e.g. RIP) do you use between the AS's?

- What protocol do you use on the outside (the Internet) - EIGRP or other?

1) We could answer the question better if we understood more about the environment that you are asking about: when you say 2 ASes does that mean 2 routing domains within a single organization (perhaps a company that has acquired another company and is considering how to treat routing between the original company and the acquired company) or does it mean routing domains between two independent organizations? In general the answer is probably that between 2 ASes you would run BGP.

2) The protocol generally used to route outside/IUnternet is generally BGP.
