ISDN Backup for Serial WAN using IRB - 1841 router

Hi,

We have 2 sites linked by a serial leased line and have been recommended to replace a 1603 router pair with an 1841's, but would like to check if the desired configuration is possible.

We are using Bridge IRB to provide a flat network across the 2 sites but I've seen a previous post stating that ISDN doesn't support that configuration...

Does anyone know if that's correct ?

If we can achieve ISDN backup with Bridge IRB, where could I find out how to configure that ?

Otherwise, can anyone suggest an alterative configuration to achieve ISDN backup to serial link on a flat network ?

Many Thanks

Hello Philip,

I would consider to use a second serial link as the backup link.

IRB will run STP and will use only one link but if that link fails the second one is ready to become active.

However, it is possible to use DDR and so ISDN to provide the alternate path:

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Thank you Guiseppe,

That link was useful.

I'm not sure which way we're going to go yet.
