Changing the telnet password on my ASA 5520

Hi,

Not sure if I'm going mad, but I can logon to my ASA via SSH and just enter my username and password and then the enable password, I can logon to the ASDM with the same credentials, but when I log into ASA via telnet I get a password screen and tried all the passwords I know and none work.

How can I change the telnet password?

Hi,

Use the passwd command to set a password for Telnet access to the console. The default is cisco. Use the who command to view which IP addresses are currently accessing the security appliance console. Use the kill command to terminate an active Telnet console session.

I hope this helps.

Best regards.

Massimiliano.

Try this command:

aaa authentication telnet console LOCAL

It will tell the ASA to use the local username and password you setup.
