Etherchannel Throughput

We have an issue with their Cisco 3750 solution, we have dual honed all servers with 2 x 1Gig links and we wanted to etherchannel these together to provide 2gig links between server and switch for performance, particularly to reduce time to back up. However we only seem to be getting 1gig throughput.

Can someone help with what could be the issue.

I have this problem too.

Bear in mind that etherchannel will always use the same physical link for the same src and dst mac-address or src and dst IP address. You have the option on the 3750 of changing the load-balancing type so it is a question of working out what would give you the most variation. I suspect that would be src/dst IP because this will give you variations depending on the clients connecting to the server.

Src/dst mac would pretty much always be the same ie. server mac and default-gateway mac. Only if clients were in same vlan would this be a useful load-balancing method for you.

We have a server with two nic cards each of them are 1gig each and both the nic cards are teamed to give us 2gig throughput.

We also have two 3750 switches and the each nic connect to these two switches and these two link on the swithces are channeled to give us 2gig connection.

But we are only getting 1 gig throughput.

As John said a given source destination conversation will always run down 1 link so you will get 1 gig at most for a given transfer between 2 endpoints. It is a more load sharing type of setup where 1 given conversation will go down 1 link and the next given conversation may go down the other link .
