Help understanding the IOS file names

Unanswered Question
Oct 29th, 2008

I am looking for some guidance in understanding what the IOS and CATOS file names mean. Here is an example...

cat4000-i9s-mz.122-25.EWA6.bin

Can someone explain this in sections...

cat4000.....

i9s.........

mz..........

122-25......

EWA6........

Also is there any good papers on this subject? Also any good papers on choosing the right CATOS and IOS.

Thanks,

Mike

I have this problem too.

Those link are very helpful.

So this is what I am getting....

cat4000.....Platform

i9s.........Feature set and capabilities

mz..........I knew this means where the file runs and if it is compressed....correct?

122-25......The version number

EWA6........and this would mean...E for Enterprise Feature set....So W differentiates the release...correct...then what does the A & 6 mean?

Thanks,

Mike
