By default - You dont subscribe each user with a static username / pin anymore. Instead the user gets prompted for username and password when they try and access the directory. A lot of users dont like this approach.
You also dont have to manually create the phone service.
I think they have fixed this up in version 7 apparently. But for 6.. see the guys posts below.
