Grounding the Case Question

Why is it that the ground on the power plug of many Cisco switches and routers is not sufficient to ground the unit overall? You are instructed to ground the case as well. I've done it but I don't understand why the two are required. Seems like many other vendors do not need the additional grounding.

Hi:

I dont think its a matter of who manufactures the equipment more than it is a matter of ensuring that the unit is grounded correctly in the event that what should be a data center's earth ground is actually carrying AC ripple.

Just ground the chassis as an added measure.
