Hi

We are using the Catalyst 3560G-48PS and have Nortel IP phones being powered inline. The Nortel 1120E phones are supposed to consume 10.9W max power. Can the 3560G switches auto sense the power requirement and supply only as much as the ip phone requires. At the moment, the switch is supplying 15.4W to each port and since the total rating is 370W I can only connect 24 phones to the switch. Is there a way we can configure the amount of power that each port can supply?

Regards

Venkatesh

You may find this useful information, you can configure power by using the following command:

You can issue the power inline command in order to configure the inline power of an individual port. This shows the power inline configuration options:

Switch(config-if)#power inline ?

auto Automatically detect and power inline devices

consumption Configure the inline device consumption

never Never apply inline power

static High priority inline power interface

The Cisco Catalyst 3560 8-port PoE and 24-port PoE configurations can support 8 and 24 simultaneous full-powered PoE ports at 15.4W for maximum powered-device support. Taking advantage of Cisco Catalyst Intelligent Power Management, the 48-port PoE configurations can deliver the necessary power to support 24 ports at 15.4W, 48 ports at 7.7W, or any combination in between. Maximum power availability for a converged voice and data network is attainable when a Cisco Catalyst 3560 switch is combined with the Cisco RPS 2300 Redundant Power System for transparent protection against internal power supply failures and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system to safeguard against power outages.

Thanks Will. That worked fine. Regards.
