Solved: Readdressing a management interface

Hi,

I'm 99% sure I know the answer to this but, as I'm working in a production environment, I really need to be certain before I do anything!

I have a couple of C2900XL switches that have management interfaces in a vlan that we are about to shutdown. I therefore want to have the management interface in a different (existing) vlan.

I think I should:

-create a vlan interface for the "new" vlan

-give it an ip address

-change the default gateway for the new subnet's gateway.

-shut down the old vlan interface.

Routing is not enabled, uplinks are trunked with all vlans, and I'm doing this through the console port so I can't really see anything going wrong...please reassure me!

This should be fine as long as you are doing it from the console. Done this many times myself. As long as

1) the new management vlan is allowed on the trunk which you say it is

2) you have a L3 interface for the management interface on a router/L3 switch

Hello J,

on L2 switch this step:

shut down the old vlan interface.

happens automatically because only one SVI can be up/up on them so migration is easy.

being on the console port you are in the safe side
