I am brand new to the field. My short term goal is to become hirable with local IT companies. What certifications are must haves and what will secure me a job. I have plenty experience with computers, I just do not have documentation to prove it.

Real, verified experience will get you a job. Just having a certification will not get you a job. Certifications are used as a differentiator in order to help pick between two otherwise equal candidates.

Very well, then to get detailed, if I was interested in a client/server position which route would I take? Not even really so much the job position as just more knowledge that I may pick up from the classes. Thank you for your quick post. Any and all information is appreciated.

Client server ... Database? Productivity apps?

That's more Platform & OS stuff, not networking infrastructure.

Red Hat certs, Suse/Novell, Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL (2000, 2005 ...), security stuff is still going well, as id VoIP (now *there's* some client/server).

Good Luck
