Can anyone tell me why Cisco Unified CM 6.0.1.3000-7 is responding with a '489 Bad Event' to a proper SUBSCRIBE request from a third party IP phone?

489 Bad Event response indicates a SUBSCRIBE request having an event type that the server could not understand. Check the bug: CSCsr42909: PGW received 489 Bad Event on Subscribe message.
