Gigabit uplinks questions

Hi,

I have a 3750 with a gigabit rj45 SFP, and I am planning on connecting it to a gigabit port on a 6509 and running it at gigabit speed.

My questions are:

-do I need a crossover cable to do this?

-does it need to be a special cable for gigabit crossover?

-could I enable MDIX or will it not work because the 6509 will not support this?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

J

MDIX will work if you leave the 3750 speed/duplex set as auto, it will not work if you attempt to use a hardcoded speed/duplex. Gigabit needs all 4 pairs to run gigabit speed so all 4 pairs must be ok. The 6509 end should also be set as auto.

Thank you, this worked perfectly,

I have always used a crossover cable for the switch to switch connections. A Cat6 would probably be best but given a short distance between the two a Cat5 should work as well.
