Bulk adding lines to VG224 FXS ports

Hi All,

I have a serious problem that I need your help on.

I have 60 VG224's to add to a Call Manager 6.1 cluster along with the associated line information for each of the FXS ports. I have managed to create a VG224 template which creates and BAT file to create the gateways and ports but how do you add the lines to each port.

Can someone tell me how I can do this using BAT.

You need to add a column for 'PORT DIRECTORY NUMBER' to your BAT file. The Headers I use are :

DOMAIN NAME DESCRIPTION PORT DESCRIPTION PORT DIRECTORY NUMBER SLOT SUBUNIT PORT NUMBER DEVICE POOL LINE CSS VOICE MAIL PROFILE ALERTING NAME ALERTING NAME ASCII LINE DESCRIPTION ASCII DISPLAY DISPLAY

Everything else, I set in the Template.

Hope this helps.

Alistair

Alistair,

Thanks for the response and soory to sound dumb, but which tab are you creating this in within BAT. Can you send a copy of BAT 6.1 with this already set so I can see what you mean.

Regards

Hi,

I gave up trying to use the BAT.xlt file.

I create a CSV file with the above headers in the 1st row, then populate for each port on each row.

Note, there are MANY bugs in the 6.1 BAT import for VG224s, so for it to work, the following conditions need to be true.

1. The gateway must not already exist in CUCM. Delete it 1st if necessary.

2. All ports must have a PORT DIRECTORY NUMBER assigned, otherwise they are not added correctly. I use dummy numbers for any currently unassigned ports, then delete them afterwards.

Hope this helps,

Alistair

Also, I have been assured that the BAT for gateways will be much improved in CUCM 7.

Cheers,

Alistair

Guys I agree just setting up a CSV is much easier than the BAT tool in 6.1x I have run into the same problem with BAT on the versions.

It is bad enough that I have to continue to learn a new solution or feature every couple of months now we are still troubleshooting BAT issues that have been around since I started working on this stuff. CCM 2.4 1999

I thought after ten years I could start learning other products and moving into other areas but I can barley keep up with UCM,UCCX, CUPS and gateways.

I hope a lot is fixed in 7.01 if it ever starts shipping without engaging my channel rep.

Gents thanks for your input.

I created a CSV file as below.

DOMAIN NAME, DESCRIPTION, PORT DESCRIPTION, PORT DIRECTORY NUMBER, SLOT, SUBUNIT, PORT NUMBER, DEVICE POOL, LINE, CSS,

DRX-VG224-121,testgateway,port0,7676,2,0,0,DRAX_STANDARD_DEVICE_POOL,1,Drax_Unrestricted_CSS,

DRX-VG224-121,testgateway,port1,7677,2,0,1,DRAX_STANDARD_DEVICE_POOL,1,Drax_Unrestricted_CSS,

Import the file and then add a gateway with VG224 Template and CSV file.

The add gatteway job fails and I get error:-

Insert Gateways

Begin Time : 11/20/2008 14:43:29

Failure Details :

Domain Name Error Code Error Description

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1(Record Number 1) 2004 LINE is blank.

Result Summary :

INSERT for 0 Gateway passed.

INSERT for 1 Gateway failed.

End Time : 11/20/2008 14:43:29

Any Ideas.

Hi,

The 'LINE CSS' is one column header, and you should not have the trailing comma, or the '1'.

ie

DRAX_STANDARD_DEVICE_POOL,1,Drax_Unrestricted_CSS,

Should be

DRAX_STANDARD_DEVICE_POOL,Drax_Unrestricted_CSS

Also make sure there is no blank line after the second row.

Cheers,

Alistair

I have finally got the file to create the gateway now, however it still fails to add the extension numbers to Line 1 on the FXS ports 0 through to 23.

Is this possible ?

File used was as below:

DOMAIN NAME,DESCRIPTION,PORT DIRECTORY NUMBER,SLOT,SUBUNIT,PORT NUMBER,PORT DESCRIPTION,DEVICE POOL,LINE CSS

DRX-VG224-121,Gateway 121,7400,2,0,0,TestPort0,DRAX_STANDARD_DEVICE_POOL,Drax_Unrestricted_CSS

DRX-VG224-121,Gateway 121,7423,2,0,23,TestPort0,DRAX_STANDARD_DEVICE_POOL,Drax_Unrestricted_CSS

I am beginning to think that this is just not possible.

Trust me. It is possible. The documentation is pretty average at best, and it took me a couple of weeks of tinkering to get it to work properly.

I have since added >50 gateways in the last month or so using BAT files with CUCM 6.1.2.

It may be a problem with your gateway template.

Have you got port 0 of the gateway template configured (ie no little yellow ? next to the telephone symbol), and also you need a line template for that port as well, with all the line defaults set?

You don't need to configure the other 23 ports though...

Cheers,

Alistair

Alistair,

After much testing I have now succeeded.

For anyone else out there, Create a Gateway template with all ports defined as POTS, go into the first port (0) and create a Line template.

Create a csv file as per my previous entry, import to Call Manager.

Insert a new Gateway using the csv file and Gateway template.

Excellent. Glad you have it working.

Cheers,

Alistair

Hi Guy's,

I was just starting to do the bat prep work for loading in 40 vg224's into my CUCM 6.1.2.

I wanted to double check the forums and came across this trail...good info. their is a bug in the BAT 6.1.2 1000(13) tested it myself! So as advised I used 6.1.1 2000(3) older bat sheet and it worked perfect.

I also had my template pre-built with port 0 and the line on port 0 pre-built...worked like a charm!

Thanks guy's

Glad it was of some help.

Why oh Why can Cisco not produce documentation that covers features like this.

Have now adde 48 of 60 gateways and they all seem to be working so far.

Hello to everyone,

We have exactly same scenario as in first topic of this discussion: 60 VG224 units and CUCM 7.1. The problem is that we cannot activate more than 10 ports on any gateway using VG224-BAT-sample published here. In same time all 24 ports activating manually from CCM and with no problem. Do you have an idea regarding this issue? Thank you in advance.
