I have a VS-S720-10G supervisor with version 12.2(33)SXH IOS. The BOOT variable looks like this:
BOOT variable = flash:s72033-ipservices_wan-mz.122-33.SXH.bin;-mz.122-33.SXI.bin,12;flash:s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI.bin;s72033-ipservices_wan-mz.
122-33.SXH.bin,12;flash:,12;
It's obviously messed up, so I want to remove all the variables and start fresh. I want the boot variable to read "BOOT variable = sup-bootdisk:s72033-ipservices_wan-mz.122-33.SXH.bin"
The problem is, I can't remove the variables. I try a "no boot system flash xxxxxx" (substituting a variable string for the x's), then do a write, but "show boot" shows no change. I've even tried "no boot system flash <everything after the equal sign>", to no effect.
What am I doing wrong?

Try it like this
no boot system flash sup-bootdisk:s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI.bin
without the ,1 at the end.

Dave,
Are you removing the old ones and then configuring the new boot strings? If not try adding the new ones and save the config. Then check the output of "show boot".

Mark:
I did as you suggested, and my boot variable now looks like
BOOT variable = flash:s72033-ipservices_wan-mz.122-33.SXH.bin;-mz.122-33.SXI.bin
,12;flash:s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI.bin;s72033-ipservices_wan-mz.
122-33.SXH.bin,12;flash:,12;sup-bootdisk:s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI.bin,1;
The statement was appended to the existing boot variable.
If I type "no boot system flash sup-bootdisk:s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI.bin,1;" and write/show boot, the boot variable is unchanged.

Try it like this
no boot system flash sup-bootdisk:s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI.bin
without the ,1 at the end.

Mark.
Hey! That worked! I feel like such a noob. I was able to remove the remainder of the boot variables by not including the ",number" at the end.
Thanks a lot. If you're ever in Edmonton, look me up and I'll buy you a libation of your choosing.
