VPN Working but very slow

I posted recenly because i was unable to connect via VPN i received very helpful replies and that issue is resolved however now that i cann connect via VPN it is painfully slow. something as simple as connecting to a ahre on a server takes forever or sometimes not at all is there anything i can do to speed things up.

i am connecting from cisco VPN client v5.0 to a PIX 501.

UPDATE###

I noticed on closer inspection that the stateful firewall on the Cisco VPN client is blocking my attempts to connect to the servers that i have explicitly disabled natting to on the PIX. if i switch the firewall off there is no data in the log so i cannot see what is happening.
