I tried to reload the firmware on a 1232 WAP and now the WAP will not boot correctly. When it boots it does shows the following from a CLI:

When I try to type information in the CLI it shows nothing and is unresponsive. I have the TFPT server up and running like the directions say and all firewalls turned off. Here is teh log from the TFTP server:

I can ping the unit on 10.0.0.1, but I cannot telnet of web access the unit. Please help!!!

Depending on which TFTP server you're using, you may or may not ("probably not") need teh entire path to the file.

In some servers, you define the path to the files in the server's configuration. IF you've done that, then you do NOT need to include the path to the files in your TFTP request, i.e.,

(for a server with no path defined)

C:\Some\Directory\SomeFile.bin

(for a server where you've defined the path in the server setup)

SomeFile.bin

When you give a path in teh server setup, all files appear in the root directory to the TFTP client.

Good Luck

Scott

Scott,

First of all, thanks for your reply and your willingness to help me out. That is really cool of you!

I have changed the directories that the TFTP server uses and it still presents a problem. Here is the TFTP log and you can see that I have changed the directories:

Each time I use the mode button reset option I get this from the WAP CLI:

The system is unable to boot automatically because there

are no bootable files to boot.

I see that the unit is sending the request to the TFTP server (I am using 3cDaemon) because it puts a note on the status page of the TFTP server saying "Could not open requested file for reading".

I have tried this on two seperate computers and tried it with the TFTP server that Cisco recomends and then went back to my 3cDaemon TFTP server. I have used the 3cDaemon server with success in upgrading switches before.

I would like to format the flash and start all over, but I cannot get the unit to recieve any input from the CLI after it reboots and try's to load the TAR file. It says the following:

The system is unable to boot automatically because there

are no bootable files to boot.

ap:

When I try to type in commands at the "ap:" prompt it does nothing. Not even text is displayed. Is there any other way to reset the AP to the boot loader so that I can format the flash? If you notice in the CLI display that it shows there is bytes used:

ap: Xmodem file system is available.

flashfs[0]: 4 files, 1 directories

flashfs[0]: 0 orphaned files, 0 orphaned directories

flashfs[0]: Total bytes: 7741440

flashfs[0]: Bytes used: 5085184

flashfs[0]: Bytes available: 2656256

flashfs[0]: flashfs fsck took 15 seconds.

Reading cookie from flash parameter block...done.

I appreciate anyone's help with this.

Grant

I don't know if this helps out but when I ping the AP with the AP connected to my computer's NIC I get no reply:

When I disconnect the ethernet cable from the AP I get a reply from the WAP wirelessly when pinged at 10.0.0.1, see below for the readout:

Just for Grins I reset the WAP with the mode button and had no ethernet cable hooked up to see if it would talk to the TFTP server but it didn't. Here is teh readout from teh CLI when reset without the ethernet cable installed between the computer and WAP:

I can ping it on 10.0.0.1 after this though.

Thanks again, and I don't know if this means anything to you or helps out in any way.

Grant

Open a command window and show the directory. Windows on occasion will like to attach an extra .tar to the end which doesnt show up in the gui and botchs things up.

Justin, Thanks for your reply.

I took this WAP into work and used a different computer and I was able to get it to upgrade through the TFTP server there.

I put the TFTP folder on the root and that helped. Additionally I was using the same hyperterminal settings for my switches and routers. The waps want none for flow control. I believe the switches and routers didn't care. This is why I was not able to type in the ROMON prompts of the WAP.

I have learned a lot with this little debacle. Thanks to Scott and Justin for your help. You guys are the HEAT!!!
