I am unable to figure out how you used the VoiceMail Port CSS?
There is a VM Port Device CSS to be configured and then there is the VoiceMail Port DN CSS to be configured.
What is the VM port device CSS used for?
I know what the VM port DN is used for but I cannot understand what the device is used for?
thanks

if you choose to transfer from Unity yo CUCM you need to restrict access, so CSS
if you have a call system transfer and someone dials to PSTN and your CSS allows it you'll be loosing money there.
it's exactly as with any other device, what can you reach from the VM port??? define it under the CSS

I understand your point about where the VM port could reach. I can restrict it under the VM port CSS.
what I would like to know is the VM port device CSS. In what situation would that be used?
You know we can use line/device approach in a phone to restrict access. Does this approach apply to VM ports Device/Line? If it does how does that work?

Hi,
CSS principle is the same whether you are using it on phones or VM ports.
Essentially, you can have the CSS either on the line or on the device. When you have CSS applied on both line and device, the resulting CSS is a combination of both the line CSS and Device CSS.
EX: CSS on line = VM_CSS
CSS on Device = VM_restricted-CSS
Final CSS = VM_CSS + VM_restricted_CSS

as Deji nicely noted, a CSS is simply that a CSS. nothing more, nothing less.
a VM port is simply a virtual phone, so what would you use a CSS?? the same as you would use it for your phone, for a translation pattern, for a GW inbound CSS
you may read the dial plan section of the SRND for calling privileges if you need more insight
