after setting up the vlan1 interface VLAN1

ip address 10.0.0.2 255.0.0.0

ip default-gateway 10.0.0.1

I can ping the e0/0 labr2

can't go beyond that?

any help to see how I can reach labr1 s/0 will be Appreciated , in the mean time , I will try to trblsht , am I need to assign static route ..

Thanks

no luck , :-(

Hi,

You cannot ping R1 because there's no route back. On R1, configure a static route or dynamic routing protocol b/w R1 and R2

The easiest thing would be to add a static route on R1 to the 10.0.0.0 major network

ip route 10.0.0.0 0.255.255.255 [R2 serial interface ip address]

I also see that you have set up R1 and R2's serial interface ip address to 192.168.1.3. Please correct that as well. And according the diagram the default gateway on labSw2-2912-xl must be 10.0.0.3 [R1's e0/0 ip address]

Thanks Thomas

will do . by the way that was a typo r1= 192.168.1.2===r2=192.168.1.3.. Thanks

I did try to do that still can creat static route ...can you explain more

Thanks

labr1(config)#ip route 10.0.0.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.1.3

%Inconsistent address and mask

labr1(config)#ip route 10.0.0.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.1.2

%Inconsistent address and mask

labr1(config)#ip route 10.0.0.0 0.255.255.255 192.168.1.2

%Inconsistent address and mask

labr1(config)#ip route 10.0.0.0 0.255.255.255 192.168.1.3

%Inconsistent address and mask

Try

ip route 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 192.168.1.x where x is whatever the next-hop is.

Jon

Thank you so much Jon , now since the route is established and I can ping 10.0.0.3 why I am not able to ping 10.0.0.2..

I am start to getting in it but just need more help .. static routing is intersting.. Thanks again.. hey one more question, why it did not take 10.0.0.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.1.x

":why it did not take 10.0.0.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.1.x "

because when you define static route you define destination address with subnet mask whereas 0.0.0.255 is wildcard mask

From the PC ur r pinging set deafault gateway as 10.0.0.3 the router R2 ip address.

U have to set Ip address for R1 also and define static route on R1 also. Host at R1 will have deafult gateway as Ip of R1.

Attaching ur lab diagram with some IP address on it forR1 and lab sw1. make changes and check the connectivity

viyuan700

so the default gtwy for the switch should the the next the interface of the next hope. because on R2= I have the ip is 10.0.0.3 and the gtwy is 10.0.0.1 is that not correct ..

Thanks Bud

yes u r right for switch the deafult gateway is IP of next hop so that it can pass that info to the router if it is not for the switch.

Even for the host connected to that switch default gateway is the IP of the router.

Is ur setup working now?

Thanks a lot !!!

have not try it yet , but I will let you know later . I am not near the lab..

OK, Now I got all the devices working and seeing each other.

should I foucis on routing ? -switching ?security ?

your expertise are appreciated

First start with routing

static routing, routing protocols

then switching

switching, bridging, vlans, spanning-tree, trunking etc

and finally security.
