I have a 6509 at a remote site with dual SUP32's running IOS code 12.2(18)SXF4; I would like to upgrade the code. In order to power cycle the switch, I need to have the new code on both the primary and the redundant sup. Loading the new code on the primary sup is easy.

My question is, how could I load the new code on the redundant sup?

copy bootflash://sup-remote didn't help.

Is that a way to copy a code from a primary sup to a standby sup?

Hi Jeremy, in my case I have the IOS in the sup-bootflash. The primary card is in slot 5, and secondary in slot 6. You can execute the following steps:

(Primary Card)

SW#show sup-bootflash:

-#- --length-- -----date/time------ path

1 74637284 Aug 12 2008 14:08:24 s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH3.bin

2 33554432 Aug 12 2008 16:47:54 sea_log.dat

3 1374 Nov 22 2008 18:37:10 diaginfo_mod2_20081122-183709

(Secondary Card)

SW#show slavesup-bootflash:

-#- --length-- -----date/time------ path

1 74573284 Aug 06 2008 12:38:12 s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH2a.bin

2 33554432 Aug 06 2008 12:43:40 sea_log.dat

To copy from Primary Card to Secondary

copy sup-bootflash:s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH3.bin slavesup-bootflash

To copy from Secondary Card to Primary

copy slavesup-bootflash:s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH2a.bin sup-bootflash

Thanks for your help. Couple of questions for you.

1- Did you have to enable versioning?

2- After loading the new code on both sup's, how did you proceed? I guess setting the boot statement.

boot system flash sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin

What after that?

After copying the IOS and updating your boot strings you would then reboot the switch. You could also reboot the supervisors individually.
