Cisco 800 router as 802.1x client

Hi,

Is it possible to configure an IOS 800 router as a 802.1x client when it is connected to our C3750 corporate access network ?

We want to protect the port and only allow this device to be connected.

Any links to references are appreciated.

Don't know for sure whether an 800 router has an 802.1x supplicant but could you not just take the mac-address of the 800 router interface and hardcode that onto the 3750 port ?

Jon

That would also work, but a MAC can be spoofed, so 802.1x would be better.

Out of interest how were you proposing to authenticate the 800 router ? because you could authenticate with mac-address but you get same problem.

I agree mac-addresses can be relatively easy to spoof but this is where physical security comes into the equation. Not trying to teach you to suck eggs but are these devices not in a secure LAN room.

Jon

No. The 800 router is not necessarly in a secure room. I want the router to authenticate with the network with a programmed account/username. This way the router can't be replaced with a pc that spoofs it mac address.
