Install redundant supervisor

Hi folks

I have a 6513 with one Sup720 and IOS 12.2(18)SXF5. I'm planning to install a second Sup720 and my question is this:

Are there any obvious "gotchas" when installing the secondary module? More precisely, can this be done without service interruption?

Regards

/Fredrik

Fredrik,

This process can be done quite easily, and pretty painless. Ensure your new (secondary) SUP720 has and will run the same IOS version as the primary and that's it. When the new supervisor boots it will pull the config from the primary. Here's an excellent guide that should help. You should not incur any downtime adding a redundant supervisor.

Hi,

Cisco 6500 Series supervisor engines are hot-swappable and the standby supervisor engine can be installed in a running, active system.

And this link helps you to where to place a Active and Standby Sup. modules,
