We have different servers connected to the switch in 2 Vlans. There are also client stations that connect to these servers. There are other servers on the network that these switches connect to. At the moment, we don't have any packet connectivity issues b/w the workstations and the servers. Pings are going without packet loss at the moment. The client workstations connect to the servers using a terminal emulation software called Exceed which is like Putty/ Hyperterminal.
The problem is that the clients keep loosing connections to the servers through these applications. The application running on the client system logs out the user intermittently. This happens even though the ping replies keep going. An example is attached to this mail. A client system in Vlan 59 on the switch tries to telnet to a server on the Network using various TCP ports but sometimes it connects and at other times it does not. The Client IP and Server IP are reflected in the attachment. It seems as if the network layer seems ok but Transport layer (TCP port) connections are failing. Can we look at this as an
Operating System issue or is there something else that needs to be checked?
