Hi,

Memory architecture is different from one router to another but general speaking you will find:

- Flash memory (on-board or via external PCMCIA card for ex): Used to store the IOS, crash files and anything else you want (configuration, other IOS version,..)

- RAM: memory where the IOS is executed, routing table and running-configuration stored

- NVRAM: used to store the startup-config

- Boot ROM: used to store the ROM monitor

- Others: memory used to buffered packets during the processing (input and output queues for ex)

Try "router architecture" as key words on cisco.com, you should find interesting links.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Laurent.

Hi,

can u please tell which r the RAM in this are removable & which r not ?

You can physically upgrade RAM and Flash memories as they are the only ones dealing with the IOS.

Hope this helps

Laurent.
